The opening credits announced their presence with the dramatic fanfare typical of older films, and Conrad raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" Toni reached behind her head with practiced ease and flicked off the last set of lights, then wiggled back into her curled-up position on the couch. "There, all set."

"Not yet." The black-and-white shapes on the screen lit the tentative smile on Conrad's face as he slipped an arm around her slender shoulders, adjusting the homemade quilt to fall over her knees, tucked up beside her on the couch. "There. Better?"

Toni nodded her approval against his shoulder. "Much better."

Conrad let out a long breath and glanced back to the screen, struggling to remember which film it was Toni had excitedly invited him over to watch with her. Sure, he'd been watching the credits... but she had unconsciously captured his attention before the title had made an entrance. He cleared his throat casually. "Uh, so which--"

"Casablanca." She grinned knowingly at his surprise, and snuggled a little closer against his side. "You forgot the name twice already."

His brow furrowed as he honestly tried to recall, but came up empty-handed. "I did?" Toni laughed, reaching for the remote and thumbing up a the volume a notch.

"Yes, and I can't believe you've never seen this movie. It's a classic!" She poked him in the ribs teasingly, and he squirmed and made a face. She bit her lip to keep from laughing outright at his single-fanged grimace, instead glancing at the coffee table and the twin mugs side-by-side.

For anyone else, Toni mused, the arrangement based upon content would have been awkward at best. Her blue-flowered mug held a steamy cup of hot chocolate, dashed with cinnamon and artfully topped with whipped cream, the way she loved and the way he always prepared it for her. His usual mug was striped green and white, perfectly ordinary save for its crimson liquid within-- something that Toni realized should have had her gagging. Or at the very least, not burrowing blissfully against the crook of its consumer's shoulder.

But then, she reflected, letting her eyes drift closed as she listened to the murmur of the film and Conrad's even breathing, they'd never exactly been normal.
Oh dear Lord, I so shouldn't be posting this. But I opened the fanfic pairing floodgate and now I have too many ideas... :eyepopping: Forgive me again, I think it's addictive.

Toni and Conrad are property of the lovely :iconvert-is-ninja: and her AMAZING comic Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name. I hope she never stumbles upon this.
